EURO is the 'Association of European Operational Research Societies'. The objectives of EURO aim to promote Operational Research within Europe.
It is with great sadness and deep respect that we say goodbye to our honorary member and pioneer of Operations Research, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 14, 2026, at the age of 92. As a professor at RWTH Aachen University (1967-1999), founder of INFORM GmbH (1969), key co-architect of the GOR, and co-founder of EURO, Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann shaped the field of Operations Research for decades. An international luminary in fuzzy set theory, he combined scientific excellence with practical application in business and industry in a truly unique way. His extraordinary contributions were recognized just last week with his induction into the Hall of Fame of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS). Beyond his analytical brilliance, he was distinguished by his always unifying, supportive, and deeply humane nature. As a mentor and role model, he inspired and shaped countless young scientists and practitioners. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann and will always honor and cherish his memory. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.
