Map

The following OpenStreetMap shows the conference venue and the location of all the hotels listed above.

Getting to and from the Conference Venue

The conference venue is on Garching campus north of Munich. A map showing the location and a campus map is available here

    Public Transport

The conference venue at Garching campus can best be reached by subway. You need to take the subway line U6 (blue line) to "Garching Forschungszentrum" (last stop), the travel time from Marienplatz (city center) is about 25 minutes. Exit the train and follow the signs to "Mathematik/Informatik". See the MVV website (local transport authority) for details and an online journey planner. Please be aware the May 1st is a national holiday in Germany, so the trains and busses are on the "Sundays" schedule (which means there is a U6 to Garching every 20 minutes only).

    • From Munich (north or city center): Take the subway line U6 to "Garching Forschungszentrum" (last stop). Coming from the city center, you might have to first take another subway line and change later for the U6.
    • From Garching: Take the subway line U6 to "Garching Forschungszentrum".
    • From Munich central station: Take the subway line U1 or U2 (green or red line) to "Sendlinger Tor". At Sendlinger Tor, change to subway line U6 (blue line) to "Garching Forschungszentrum".
    • From Munich airport: To get to the city center, take the train line S1 with stops at "Marienplatz" (center) and "Hauptbahnhof" (central station). To get directly to the conference venue, also take the S1 train to Marienplatz and change there to subway line U6 to "Garching Forschungszentrum". (Attention: Do not try to use a bus connection from Neufahrn to Garching - this connection only runs on weekdays, so there is no such bus on May 1st!)

    Tickets for Public Transport

As a rule, public transport tickets have to be validated before you board a subway or a train. There are validating machines at the platform access or sometimes at the platform itself. If you take a bus or a tramway, these machines are onboard and you validate your ticket right after boarding. Tickets can be obtained at vending machines at every subway or train station and at vending machines on board the buses and tramways.

    • From Munich (center or north): Your cheapest option is probably getting a München XXL Tageskarte Single for 8,10 € for each of the three conference days. This entitles you to unlimited public transport for a single person in the city center and to Garching (but not to the airport). For the days where you need to get to or from the airport, get a "Tageskarte Gesamtnetz" for 11,70 € instead. This entitles you to unlimited public transport for a single person in the city center, to Garching and to the airport.
    • From Garching: You will need a "Kurzstrecke" ticket to get to or from Garching Forschungszentrum. This ticket is valid for one trip only, so you need to buy another one to get back to your hotel. Also, this ticket may not be used to get to central Munich. If you intend to do so (e.g. for the conference dinner), we recommend to get a "München XXL" ticket that is valid for the whole day and may be used to get around in Garching and in Munich, see above.
