| Announcement | ESICUP gathers practitioners, researchers and Operations Research educators with interests in the area of Cutting and Packing. The purpose of ESICUP is to improve communication among individuals working in this field. Besides the promotion of publications, the activities of the group include the maintenance of a website and the organization of meetings.
Founded in 1988, during the EURO/TIMS Conference in Paris, by Prof. Gerhard Waescher and Prof. Harald Dyckhoff, it has now members from the entire world. ESICUP is since 2003 an EURO Working Group of the Association of European Operational Research Societies.
We encourage both researchers and practicioners interested in Cutting and Packing to join us.

| Purpose and history | ESICUP gathers practitioners, researchers and OR educators with interests in the area of Cutting and Packing. This EWG has its roots in SICUP, a group founded in 1988, during the EURO/TIMS Conference in Paris, by Prof. Gerhard Waescher and Prof. Harold Dyckhoff.
During its life SICUP promoted three special numbers of EJOR on Cutting and Packing:
- H. Dyckhoff and G. Waescher, EJOR 44 (2) (1990)
- E. Bischoff and G. Waescher, EJOR 84 (3) (1995)
- P. Wang and G. Waescher, EJOR 141 (2) (2002)
The group has also organized workshops within major OR conferences, mainly in the form of invited sessions or organized clusters:

The average number of members attending these workshops has been 30 and a web page was kept running.
At Edinburgh meeting, it was decided that the moment of becoming a formal group had arrived. Considering the distribution of the member´s nationalities and without excluding anyone from belonging to the group, EURO looked the right environment. During EURO 2003 Conference, at Istanbul, ESICUP - EURO Special Interest Group on Cutting and Packing was formally announced.

| Members | By the end of December 2010 ESICUP had around 690 users registered in the web site. Around 50 people attend each year the annual ESICUP Meeting and the stream on Cutting and Packing, organized each year in the EURO K or IFORS K Conferences, gathers a similar number of members. |
