Special Issue: Healthcare Policy and Management

Guest Editors: Alec Morton, Marion Rauner, Greg Zaric

  • Deadline for submission: September 30, 2014

Motivation

Healthcare decision makers such as government health authorities, insurers, hospitals as well as manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and medical devices are working under unprecedented strain caused by budgetary constraints, system reform, demographic and technological change. In this setting, EURO Journal of Decision Processes (EDJP) will explore how operational research (OR) and health economic modelling help address these challenges and aid decision makers in choosing appropriate policy actions.

Contents

The Guest Editors seek state of the art reviews and research that demonstrates how decision makers can systematically deal with the strategic and policy challenges facing governments and healthcare organisations. Submissions which straddle the divide between OR and health economics are particularly welcome. Topics of particular interest include:

  • analysis of the strategic challenges facing healthcare systems or organisations;
  • case studies of particular strategic or policy planning processes;
  • studies in healthcare financing;
  • advances in modeling of healthcare need or demand;
  • comparative analysis of different institutional structures or delivery systems;
  • performance measurement or management systems for healthcare providers;
  • innovations in appraisal methods for healthcare technologies;
  • empirical studies of healthcare system behaviour with policy implications.

Established by the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO), EJDP publishes research that advances the understanding and appropriate use of operational research in supporting decision making processes (see http://www.springer.com/40070).
