Special Issue: Preference Elicitation and Learning

Guest Editors: Vincent Mousseau, Marc Pirlot

  • Deadline for submission: November 15, 2013

Motivation

Preferences are fundamental in decision processes, because decision analysts must account for the preferences of the stakeholders who participate in these processes and are impacted by their outcomes. To support the elicitation of stakeholder preferences, many models, procedures and methodologies have been proposed. It is believed that such approaches to preference elicitation and learning will become more and more important with the proliferation of semi-automated computerized interfaces and the adoption of decision support systems which are based on increasingly large datasets.

Researchers working in the fields of Multiple Criteria Decision Aid and Artificial Intelligence, in particular, have worked on the topics of preference modeling, elicitation, representation, aggregation, and learning. They have also developed algorithms which can be embedded in different methodologies to support different phases of the decision process, ranging from the elicitation and aggregation of decision makers’ preferences to the development and communication of decision recommendations.

As a research topic, Preference elicitation and learning is of considerable interest to many EURO Working Groups (Multicriteria Decision Aid, Decision Support Systems, Advances in Preference Handling). It has also been addressed at dedicated workshops (e.g., ECAI and IJCAI Workshops, DA2PL) and streams at EURO conferences (Preference learning).

Contents

The Guest Editors invite featured papers on Preference Elicitation and Learning which will be published in the EURO Journal on Decision Processes. In particular, the Guest Editors welcome papers which present new formalisms and methodologies or which offer fresh perspectives into preference handling and elicitation. Case studies which provide insights into the impact of preference learning and elicitation methodologies are also welcome. Technically, papers can focus on questions such as preference disaggregation, robust regression of preferences, elicitation of group preferences, and explanation of decision recommendations, among others.

Schedule

Prospective authors are invited to submit a full paper to the EJDP Editorial Manager as "Original Research" (https://www.editorialmanager.com/ejdp) with a reference to this Call for Papers in the field "Please enter comments". Alternatively, they may first send the Guest Editors a three-page extended abstract which summarizes the proposed contribution (email [email protected], [email protected]). The deadline for the submission of extended abstracts is September 30th, 2013 and full papers are due by November 15th, 2013. Accepted papers are planned to appear in late 2014 or early 2015.
