Special issue: Pricing in transportation networks

Guest editors: Michael Florian and Toi Lawphongpanich

Published: 4(2) June 2015

This special issue will explore methods for influencing the use of transportation infrastructure and services via pricing and other market-based schemes. These may include tolls, fares, credits, and discriminatory pricing for both private and public transportation systems. This special issue will attempt to cover methodologies related to, among others, analyses of demand for transportation services, assessing the impacts of and/or reactions to tolls, pricing and other market-based mechanism by, e.g., consumers, freight operators, and mathematical and computational models that integrate these factors in, e.g., forecasting demand and revenue, finding equilibrium and other flow distributions, and developing policy decisions.

We expect papers in this special issue to draw on techniques from multiple disciplines including operations research, econometrics and economic analyses, behavioral and social sciences, etc. Topics of interest include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Static and dynamic models of tolling roads, managed lanes, and other transportation facilities;
  • Demand modeling for analyzing road network pricing decisions; Use of advanced technologies in implementing road pricing for passenger cars and freight vehicles;
  • Pricing of commercial and public transportation systems;
