Agent-based Models in Management, Economic and Organisation Sciences
Chair(s): Stephan Leitner (stephan.leitner@aau.at), Friederike Wall (friederike.wall@uni-klu.ac.at)In recent years, the applications of simulation as a research method in management, economic and organization sciences have gained attraction. Simulation is a powerful method to examine complex and emergent phenomena that incorporate a multitude of interrelated issues. Since manifold interacting issues lead to intractable dimensions in analytical modelling and are particularly difficult to control in empirical research, simulation offers the potential to overcome the drawbacks and serve as a complement to these research methods. We encourage contributions that reflect the application of simulation methodology to research questions in business and economics. Topics of interest are (but not limited to): - Algorithmic management: Optimizing management with cutting-edge algorithms - Collaborative organizing and bottom-up organizational dynamics - Microeconomics ABMs: emergence of market structure, ABM approach to game theory - Macroeconomic ABMs: crises, growth, business fluctuations, climate change, sustainability - Decoding human behavior through modeling - Collective intelligence and group decision making - Innovative mixed methods for ABM - Ensuring transparency and reproducibility in ABM - Assessing the robustness of ABMs - Pioneering new solutions with innovative ABM approaches

OR and Ethics
Chair(s): Dorien DeTombe (doriendetombe@hotmail.com), Rossen M. Kazakov (rkazakov@strateggo.com), Cathal MacSwiney Brugha (cathal.brugha@ucd.ie), Ulrike Reisach (ulrike.reisach@hnu.de), Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber (gerhard-wilhelm.weber@put.poznan.pl)The EWG OR and Ethics and Societal Complexity focus at ethical subjects in doing research in the way of how to make the world a better place to live for all people. Giving that each researcher has only one life, the members of both these research groups decided to dedicate their lives, research capability, brains and efforts to improve the living conditions of all the people in the world. This idea of research often includes criticizing issues and circumstances that abuse privacy, like unethical use of data mining for companies, Google and Facebook, abuse health of people by the alcohol and tobacco industry, criticize unethical labor conditions like child labor, improving the position of women by emphasizing education of women, especially in developing countries, by being financial independent, by forbidding child marriages and stimulate equal pay for equal jobs given that women rights are human rights. Reflecting and handling these kind of complex societal ethical problems is the focus of the researchers belonging to the EWG OR and Ethics and Societal Complexity. In most complex societal problems some persons benefit while most people suffer. Given this reality the researchers of our EWG research group of OR and Ethics and Societal Complexity like to minimalize the personal benefit of those who profit of the complex problems, like the banks who created the credit crisis and the pharmacy industry who benefited for dangerous drugs and to maximize the situation of all people in a social based democracy where all people can be protected by the rule of law of a social based democracy. We invite all researchers who are also doing research for improving the level of living to join our conferences.
