Abstract
In recent years, the need to address healthcare scheduling within integrated frameworks has become increasingly evident. Hospital resources are heterogeneous and strongly interdependent. Mathematical models capturing these systems are typically large scale and NP-hard, and remain difficult to solve even with advanced commercial solvers. This paper proposes a novel multi-layer scheduling model for the hospital inpatient process within a Patient Flow framework, capturing the coordination of surgery, diagnostics, and ward resources, and outlines an efficient heuristic solution approach.
