Abstract
Optimizing the operation of a national gas distribution network (207,000 km of pipelines, 11 million delivery points) yields a non-convex MINLP that no off-the-shelf solver can handle. This talk reports on an industrialized solution approach that separates the configuration variables from the physical simulation.
I will discuss the engineering choices behind the production pipeline, draw connections to the open-source Julia/JuMP ecosystem, and give some practical directions for making general-purpose decomposition tools more adoptable in industrial settings.
