Abstract
Causal loop diagrams (CLDs) are increasingly used for participatory modelling and can be effective tools to inform public policy decision making. Although best-practice guidance recommends combining CLDs with System Dynamics simulation models, many applications remain at the qualitative level. We reflect on the strengths and limitations of CLD modelling to support policy making in a REGENYSYS application, a Thames Estuary regeneration project in which we are collaborating with local authorities to design and implement transition experiments to promote a regenerative food system.
