Abstract

The transport sector significantly contributes to carbon emissions, particularly in rapidly developing economies like India. This study evaluates the economic competitiveness of passenger vehicles using an eight-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) model comparing petrol, diesel, and battery electric vehicles across SUV segments and price ranges. The analysis incorporates purchase cost, fuel or electricity expenditure, maintenance, depreciation, and policy incentives, along with a socioeconomic assessment of lifecycle emissions. Results indicate that BEVs are cost-competitive.
