Abstract
The rise in financial distress, zombie companies, and bankruptcies globally has been a growing concern since the global financial crisis of 2007-2009. Financially distressed companies and zombie firms pose a great threat to a struggling economy such as South Africa’s. Sentiment has played an increasingly significant role in the performance of a company therefore adding a new risk. This study aims to investigate the reliability of sentiment in the prediction of zombie companies.
