Abstract
Education covers a range of sectors, including kindergarten, primary, secondary, and higher institutions. Each of the above sectors is plagued with the daily running of the schools, scheduling of lessons and assignments of teachers to classes, logistics of getting pupils to schools, allocation of resources, examination time tables, maintenance, replacement, staff welfare and management, security, result management, etc. The objective of Operations Research (O.R). in school management is to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of the school management system. The first problem the work addressed is whether the above-listed problem should be solved as a whole (System Approach) or by applying a pragmatic approach to problem solving. Secondly, diverse problems faced by the management of schools and consumers of education are surveyed and a proposal on how OR techniques can be applied in an effort to improve these operations is provided.
