Abstract

This study addresses the Flexible Job Shop Scheduling and Operator Timetabling Problem (FJSPOT), which integrates operation scheduling with operator timetabling under shift regulation constraints. A key distinction between this study and prior works is that operations may span multiple shifts and operators are assigned to machines and shifts to cover the scheduled operations on machine. Furthermore, the feasibility of the operation schedule may be restricted by operators’ availability and their timetable.
To address the problem, we present a strengthened mixed integer programming (MIP) to enhance the existing models for this problem. Furthermore, we develop a decomposition approach that deploys a cut generation process. Additionally, we develop two heuristic-based solution approaches to tackle the problem in large scale. Our findings indicate that for small instances, the hybrid decomposition approach outperforms the MIP formulation. In medium and large instances the proposed heuristics can efficiently generate solutions within a reasonable computational time.
