Abstract
The field of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has seen exponential growth over the past few years in research papers and publications. A hype train is rolling around how to best leverage GenAI in the fields of Operations Research: code generation, chatbots for documentation, generation of mathematical optimization models, allowing business users to easier navigate through an application… User productivity as the main goal.
Yet, Large language models (LLMs) occasionally produce incorrect or misleading results, a phenomenon commonly called "hallucinations". At FICO we are approaching GenAI in Optimization by combining technological advancements with ethical considerations and human oversight. GenAI will not replace optimization techniques, yet, it can play a role to democratize the use of Operations Research.
