Abstract
This presentation explores the integration of Digital Twin technology into smart city innovation through the DISCS (Design and Integration of Smart City Solutions) framework. DISCS provides a structured approach to designing, testing, and deploying transformative urban solutions by combining Digital Twins with living lab principles and testbed environments. Central to this approach is the use of Digital Twins to enhance data-driven decision making by creating dynamic, real-time, and context-aware models of city systems. These Digital Twins allow stakeholders to evaluate policy impacts and optimise operations with a higher degree of accuracy and confidence. By integrating Digital Twins with testbeds and living labs, DISCS enables cities to prototype and refine solutions in realistic environments, reducing innovation risks and bridging the gap between concept and implementation. The presentation emphasises the need for well-defined system requirements and architectural frameworks to ensure interoperability and scalability. Practical examples in Energy Management, Sustainable Mobility, Water Resource Management, and Disaster Response illustrate how digital twins drive smarter, faster, and more resilient urban decisions.
