Abstract

In recent decades, System Dynamics (SD) has proven very effective in simulating for sustainable development. To balance the concerns in long-term operation cost and environmental systems, the research focuses on two performance indicators, including Carbon Emission Reduction (CER) and Cost Reduction (CR) with internal and external factors.
The internal factors include a cleaning products manufacturing company in Taiwan. The external factors include explore successful strategies from similar companies and current trends including 3 aspects in packaging, energy, and transportation. The simulation is set for 5 years (60 times) from Jan. 2023 to Jan. 2028 with one machine information in 2023. First, each factor is simulated individually with the basic company information and possible scenarios. Second, the optimized scenario in packaging, energy, and transportation will be compared to show the combination. The research is aiming to explore the potential savings in practicing the strategy without further exploring the initial investment cost and exemplified with only.
The result shows that with the strategy of changing packaging to 100%PET, energy structure to 100% wind power, transportation to 100% electric vehicles, the CER is 1.92%, 42.47%, 54.49%, and CR is 18.57%, 52.85%, 21.48%. Combining the above-mentioned strategies, CER is 97.17% and CR is 49.3%. In conclusion, the prioritizing of the transition strategy is the energy structure, transportation and the packaging.
