Abstract
The new Long-Term Care Act (ZDOsk and ZDOsk-1) in Slovenia provides for home care for categorised individuals in need of assistance. The legislation includes also new services for home reactivation, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and medical care. However, it does not account for the spatial dispersion of housing for older citizens, nor does it provide for community care in specially adapted accommodations like Silver Villages. These villages would offer concentrated housing for older adults dependent on help, thereby reducing travel costs for carers in rural areas.
Our research aims to optimise social care by examining the spatial aspects of home care for older citizens, using the Centre for Social Work Posavje – Unit Krško as a case study. We will investigate the preferences of the elderly for care time slots, their willingness to relocate to a Silver Village, the availability of land for such communities, and the investment costs. This study seeks to improve the accessibility and quality of services for older adults, with potential implications for social care policies and practices.
