Abstract

Over the past few years, Indian manufacturers have become increasingly focused on achieving social sustainability compliance across their multi-tier supply chains. The importance of identifying key enablers cannot be overstated when it comes to enhancing social compliance governance. The primary objective of this paper is thus to determine the enablers that facilitate a focal manufacturer to administer social sustainability across its multi-tier supply chain. The current investigation presents a methodological operations-research based framework for identifying and prioritizing key enablers of social sustainability in a multi-tier supply chain using the best-worst method. The analysis illustrates that the primary drivers of social sustainability in a multi-tier supply chain are extrinsic pressure from stakeholders, institutional self-adoption, and senior management commitment of the focal manufacturer. This study highlights the importance of understanding the impact of various factors on the successful implementation of social sustainability practices in manufacturing companies and their suppliers at different levels of the supply chain. By prioritizing these factors, decision-makers can gain valuable insights into how to effectively adopt and integrate social sustainability guidelines. Prospective investigators have the opportunity to broaden the scope of the current investigation by utilizing various multi-decision making techniques, such as ISM, DEMATEL, and others.
