Abstract
Making a difference in UK Government
Tony O’Connor CBE FORS.
Head of the Government OR Service.
UK Central Government has had long history of using Operational Research in developing and delivering policies, and the Government OR Service (GORS) now has around 1500 professional OR analysts working in 30 different Government Departments and agencies. From Health to Welfare, Education to Transport, Policing to Energy, and Business to Taxation, GORS supports many aspects of Government policy, helping Ministers to deliver better outcomes to UK citizens.
This session will show how OR has made a difference to Government, some examples of where OR has influenced policy, and how it has impacted on the lives of millions of UK citizens.
