Abstract
Medical residency programs are experiencing a significant surge in applications due to increased competition in the medical profession and advancements in technology that facilitate broad application submission. This growing trend creates logistical challenges for programs in selecting candidates from large pools. A key issue is “crowding,” where highly competitive candidates receive multiple interview offers, leaving others overlooked and contributing to mismatches and unfilled residency slots. The challenge of managing these increasing application volumes highlights the need for effective strategies to allocate limited interview opportunities and ensure alignment between programs and suitable candidates. This research examines policies to optimize interview allocation, aiming to improve efficiency and match quality in the residency selection process.
