Abstract
We consider an optimal replacement problem for a mission-based system with partially observable degradation levels, where a mission process modulates the system's degradation process. The system is partially observed at predetermined time points, where perfect information related to the mission process (fully observable) is obtained, and only partial information related to the system's degradation level (partially observable) is obtained. We formulate the optimal replacement problem as a partially observable Markov decision process to minimize the long-run expected total discounted cost. We provide sufficient conditions to guarantee a control-limit type optimal replacement policy.
