Abstract
In the last decades, the impact of natural and manmade disasters has been increasing and so does the research in the field of humanitarian logistics. But what are the challenges that humanitarian logistics face in practice and where is the research going? Is there an alignment between research and practice or a gap?
By reviewing papers on humanitarian operations, problems raised by practitioner conferences and webinars, and conducting a survey of the author community on the topic, we link these problems with the literature developed in our field. We also identify characteristics of papers that close the gap between practice and research. We then go deeper into some research projects that have affected practice helping it to become efficient, effective, and sustainable.
