Abstract
The “Data Science Gymkhana” is a yearly activity organized with the aim of promoting critical thinking and the development of the scientific method among secondary school students. It was born in 2020 as one of the activities of the program STEM4Girls developed at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) to promote scientific and technological vocations among children and young people and, in particular, girls. The Gymkhana seeks to make visible the importance of data science as a driver of change and social transformation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Each edition is focused on one SDG and top researchers are invited to give a talk about her work. In this edition an Operational Researcher has been invited in connection to the SDG7: Affordable and clean energy. Students have to analyze a data set related to the selected SDG, solve some riddles and present their analysis in relation to the actions we can make based on data. In this presentation, we describe the activity and discuss some of its outcomes and impact.
