Network topology of electrical grid can be controlled for better system reliability, voltage profiles and transfer capacity. The UMBRELLA project emphasizes corrective switching as a promising technique, because it may be implemented in different time horizons, particularly as a short term remedial action; it utilizes existing grid so it doesn’t need huge investments and it can substantially improve network flexibility and efficiency.
In this talk we analyse and compare different problem formulation (AC/DC) and computational solution techniques, which are used in grid topology optimization.
