The Department of Logistics at Stellenbosch University is proud to host the 54th Annual Conference of the Operations Research Society of South Africa (ORSSA) at Devon Valley Hotel in Stellenbosch from 27 to 30 September 2026 (https://www.orssa.org.za/conference). The theme for this year’s conference is “Descending towards the Optimal Valley: Advancing Real-World Impact in OR for a Better Africa.”
We are pleased to present an outstanding lineup of keynote speakers, with a strong focus on combinatorial optimisation. Prof El-Ghazali Talbi from the University of Lille (France), Prof Dr Greet Vanden Berghe from KU Leuven (Belgium) and Prof Luís Gouveia from the University of Lisbon (Portugal) will each deliver presentations during dedicated plenary sessions. We are further honoured to welcome Dr Andries Heyns, a Senior Researcher within our department, who will present the conference tutorial on the application of geospatial analysis in humanitarian logistics and accessibility modelling, using tools developed for the World Bank and Médecins Sans Frontières.
In addition to presentations by delegates and keynote speakers, as well as the conference tutorial, the conference programme will include several social events designed to encourage networking and collaboration. These include a welcome function on the Sunday evening in the form of a cocktail reception with canapés and refreshments, a social event on the Monday evening at a nearby wine estate and a formal three-course gala dinner and awards ceremony on the Tuesday evening, all of which are included in the registration fees. Daily lunches and light refreshments during scheduled breaks are also included for all delegates.
Early bird registration closes on 29 May 2026, while standard registration closes on 31 July 2026. Members who register for or renew their ORSSA membership for 2026 will receive an additional 10% discount.
