We’re looking to recruit a home (UK) student for an industry-linked, fully funded PhD exploring how second-hand wind turbines could support UK community energy projects and net zero. This is a great opportunity to build a career at the intersection of renewable energy, sustainability and OR.

Entry qualifications
- Quantitative and/or qualitative research skills, e.g. life-cycle analysis (LCA), statistical and data analysis of questionnaire surveys.
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, circular economy principles, and sustainability assessment.
- Data analysis and simulation modelling skills to develop decision-support tools and assess the feasibility of second-hand wind turbines.
- Experience in community engagement and working with stakeholders for data gathering and validation.
- Familiarity with systems thinking and modelling tools, such as soft systems methodology, to integrate multi-disciplinary methods.
- Knowledge of ethical data management practices and experience in open-access publishing for transparency and reproducibility.

- You must qualify for UK home fee status. You can find information on this here - home or overseas tuition fee status.
- You must be available to begin study from 1 October 2026.
- You must not be a current doctoral level candidate at Nottingham Trent University or already hold a PhD or other doctoral degree.
- You can only submit one application relating to one NTU studentship project. If you submit more than one application none of your applications will be considered.
- You must submit a full and complete application (including having submitted all required supporting documents) by 10 April 2026. Any incomplete applications, or applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
