Special issue information:
Logistics and supply chain systems are becoming increasingly complex due to globalization, dynamic market demands, and technological disruptions. To cope with these challenges, advanced modeling and solution approaches rooted in Operations Research (OR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are playing a central role in shaping the future of logistics. These disciplines offer powerful tools for optimizing operations, improving decision-making, and enabling intelligent automation across logistics networks. In recent years, the convergence of OR techniques, such as mathematical programming, heuristics, simulation, and game theory, with AI methods, like machine learning, knowledge-based systems, and reinforcement learning, has unlocked new opportunities for innovation in transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution planning. The aim of this special issue is to explore how OR and AI can be effectively integrated to address both traditional and emerging challenges in logistics, addressing real-world applications. We welcome contributions that focus on modeling, algorithm development, hybrid approaches, and real-world applications, especially those that emphasize computational efficiency, robustness, and scalability. We also encourage case studies from developing economies, where unique contextual factors may introduce additional complexities and require innovative solutions. Topics of this special issue should address practical concerns from case studies across different industries, including but not limited to the following areas:
We are particularly interested in receiving strong, innovative, and insightful studies motivated by practical applications. These studies should make a significant contribution to the existing body of knowledge. Please note that all papers submitted for this special issue will undergo the standard peer review procedures established by Computers & Industrial Engineering.
