New EURO prize and guidelines
On 2 July 2006, the EURO Council unanimously approved the proposal of the EURO Executive Committee regarding a new prize (EURO Distinguished Service Medal) and new EURO prize guidelines as outlined in the EURO Newsletter #5.
The EURO Distinguished Service Medal should honour extra-ordinary efforts and should be awarded for recognition of distinguished service to the Association of European OR Societies (EURO) and to the profession of OR.
The new guidelines relate to the EURO Distinguished Service Medal (EDSM), EURO Gold Medal (EGM), the EURO Excellence in Practice Award (EEPA) and the EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award (EDDA). These guidelines will be applied to the EDSM 2009, the EGM 2007, the EEPA 2007 and the EDDA 2007.
The jury of these EURO prizes will be based on a "core jury" of three people. Each of one is member of the jury for three years. Each year the most senior member is replaced by a new jury member. The most senior member in the new jury then becomes chair of the jury. The EURO EC selects two additional members in order to get a good coverage of operations research wrt. geography and research area.
Additionally for the EURO Gold Medal not only EURO member societies can nominate candidates but also laureates and former chairs, furthermore the awardees should have a connection with Europe.
