"A EURO ORD Workshop on OR for Developing Countries - Young
Researchers and PhD Symposium", University of Lisbon, Portugal, July
10, 2010.
This is a satellite event of EURO24, July 11-14. Contributions that show the outworking of OR methods within the particular context of developing countries are welcome!
This workshop provides an opportunity for doctoral students to present and
discuss their research within a focused environment and with other academics
and practitioners with similar interests in Operational Research (OR) and
Development. It is organized by EURO ORD, the new EURO Working Group on OR
for Development (http://www2.ing.puc.cl/~fcrespo/eurofdv/). The symposium
will comprise plenary sessions, research clinics as well as the opportunity
to have research dialogues led by senior academics working in the field.

The goal of EWG ORD is to promote and to facilitate communication links among European (and other) researchers working in areas of operational research for development. EWG ORD was established with numerous founding members at a satellite meeting of the EURO XXI 2006 Conference in Iceland, July 2-5, 2006.

Objectives of EWG ORD:
-to disseminate state-of-the-art knowledge and to support research in operational research for development,
-to assist in gathering the operational research for development communities in Europe organized under the umbrella of EURO,
-to support preparation, refereeing and editing of publications,
-to establish regular information channels and regular meetings,
-to involve industrial organizations and users of optimization in the activities listed above,
-vivid exchange between scientific experience and enthusiasm of the youth,
-encouragement of building up a common and developing Europe, and
-deepening of peace and friendship in Europe and in the world.

The 2nd PhD Workshop on "OR for Developing Countries" run by the
EURO Working Group 'OR for Development', took place at the University of Applied Sciences, Remagen (near Bonn), Germany, July 4th, 2009.
The workshop aimed to provide a forum for doctoral students and others involved in OR and Development to
- share and discuss their research activities,
- encourage students to establish and maintain a research network,
- foster a research environment to support career development in the any domain of a practical OR discipline.
We honoured Hans Ittmann as Fellow 2009 and Claudia Rave as Junior Fellow 2009.

EURO Mini Conference EUROPT-2008. May 20-23, Neringa, Lithuania.
“Continuous Optimization and Knowledge-Based Technologies”

"Regional Meeting on Water in the Mediterranean Basin" took place on 09-11 October 2008, at Near East University in Northern Cyprus.
The meeting involved paper/poster presentations followed by workshops and panel discussions. The overall outcome of the 3-day long scientific activity was eventually conveyed to the 5th World Water Forum. The Working Group on the OR Practice in Africa 11th-14th September at University of Cape Town, Western Cape Province, South Africa

The 2007 ORPA/ORSSA conference focused on the use of Operations Research (OR) in Africa to aid development and propagate sustainable growth through the use of some of the cutting edge techniques unique to our field. The conference was intended to bring academics from all over the world together to discuss and present some of the most recent developments in our field. It was also intended as a vehicle to bring industry and the academic world together in order to produce effective and accurate relationships that may result in effective and beneficial implementations of OR in practice.
