Purpose and history
Our general plan is to bring together researchers from the field of Experimental Economics and related disciplines like business administration, behavioral sciences, and Operational Research. Since 1999 the CEEL-group at the University of Trento/Italy and the ExLab-group at the University of Graz have existed. E-CUBE is an enlarged group, building on their ideas.
The first announcement of the E-CUBE WG was given at the October 2000 meeting of ExLab in Graz.

17.11.2009: Gemeinsame Experimentelle Untersuchungen mit KFU Graz-
Eröffnung mit Messecharakter
Die Universitätsbibliothek eröffnet die Jahresausstellung 2009. Wissenschaftler der Universität zeigen, wie ihre Forschungsprojekte den Alltag sicherer machen.
Am 11. November eröffnete die Bibliothek der Universität der Bundeswehr München ihre Jahresausstellung. Diesmal konzentrierten sich die Ausstellungsmacher auf die Stärken der Universität. Nicht Exponate aus Archiven oder Museen standen im Vordergrund, sondern aktuelle Forschungsprojekte zum Anfassen. Der Titel der Ausstellung, die noch bis zum 15. Januar im Hauptlesesaal der Universitätsbibliothek zu sehen ist, lautet: „‚Mit Sicherheit’ … Beiträge zum Forschungsschwerpunkt Sicherheit in Technik und Gesellschaft an der Universität der Bundeswehr München“.
Von Straßenverkehr bis Klimaschutz
Der Schirmherr der Veranstaltung, Prof. Friedrich Sell, Vizepräsident für Forschung, führte in die Ausstellung ein und zeigte auf, wie groß die Bandbreite ist, innerhalb derer im Bereich Sicherheit an der Universität der Bundeswehr München geforscht wird. Ob es um „intelligentes Ressourcenmanagement“ (Untersuchungen, die gemeinsam mit der KFU Graz durchgeführt werden) geht, um die Energieversorgung der Zukunft zu sichern, oder um die Gestaltung von Tunneln, damit die Menschen in Notsituationen schnell in Sicherheit gelangen, eines haben alle Projekte gemeinsam: Sie zeigen, dass die Arbeit der Wissenschaftler Auswirkungen auf den Alltag der Menschen hat und ihren Alltag sicherer machen kann. Die Jahresausstellung der Bibliothek ist Teil der Initiative „Wissenschaftsjahr 2009“ des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung, das unter dem Motto „Forschungsexpedition Deutschland“ steht. Ziel dieses Wissenschaftsjahres ist es, zu vermitteln, welche Rolle Wissenschaft und Forschung für die Menschen in Deutschland spielen und welche Erfolge dem Pioniergeist der Forscher zu verdanken sind.
Auf Forschungsexpedition
In Neubiberg und Umgebung folgten über 200 Menschen der Einladung, selbst auf Forschungsexpedition zu gehen und im Rahmen der Ausstellungseröffnung einige Projekte und deren Entwickler näher kennen zu lernen. Wie auf einer Messe präsentierten die Wissenschaftler der Universität ihre Ideen und Exponate. So konnten Besucher beispielsweise selbst den biometrischen Fingerscanner ausprobieren oder mit Simulationssoftware trainieren. Als virtueller Reiseleiter der Expedition fungierte der CommunityMirror, ein Projekt der Forschungsgruppe Kooperationssysteme am Institut für Softwaretechnologie. Auf einem Touchscreen-Monitor waren alle teilnehmenden Wissenschaftler und deren Forschungsschwerpunkte abrufbar – so dass mit Sicherheit an diesem Abend jeder den richtigen Ansprechpartner gefunden hat.

The Workshop
The purpose of this Joint-Workshop is to bring together researchers in the areas of Decision Support Systems, Operations Research, Computer Sciences, Economics, and their respective areas of applications. The interdisciplinary flavour of this event joins the interests of the EURO Working Group on Decision Support Systems (EWG-DSS); EURO Working Group on Experimental Economics (EWG E-CUBE), and e-PARTICIPATION (OCG / ESF Working Group one-Democracy). Particular focus will be given to recent developments in all related fields, their methodologies, concepts and implementation details. Members of the working groups are expected to participate and to encourage the participation of other related professionals, so that further collaboration can be promoted on a larger scale.
EWG-DSS: EURO Working Group on Decision Support Systems
The growing demand for specific approaches of decision making and decision support, keeps us aware of the importance of frequently getting in contact with professionals and colleagues working in the area within a cooperative workshop environment.
The EWG-DSS has been created in Madeira (Portugal) during the Euro Summer Institute on DSS, in May 1989. Since then, researchers involved in this group have been meeting every year in workshops. In 2005, the EWG-DSS will celebrate its 16th. Anniversary in Graz!
In this workshop it will be strongly encouraged the exchange of new ideas involving topics like:
· Complex Decision Problems;
· the evolution of DSSs and its various applications;
· DSS Methodology and Frameworks;
· Distributed GSS / NSS;
· AI Methods in GSS / NSS;
· Internet Applications; as well as
· Applications in E-Negotiations, Finances, Education, among others.
Members of the EWG-DSS are expected to participate and to encourage the participation of other related professionals in this Joint-Workshop, so that further collaboration can be promoted on a larger scale.
e-Participation in Europe: Concepts and Implementation
OCG / ESF WORKING GROUP on e-DEMOCRACY
The e-PARTICIPATION branch of this Joint-Workshop concerns "e-Participation in Europe: Concepts and Implementation". It is promoted by the European Science Foundation (ESF) network on "Towards Electronic Democracy" (TED - a project that deals with Internet-Based Complex Decision Support -http://www.esf.org/ted), by the Working Group "e-Democracy" of the Austrian Computer Society (OCG) and by the Research Group "e-Voting.at". Its main goal is to encourage new developments on e-Participation and bring together people working in academia, politics and public administration.

e-Participation in Europe: Concepts and Implementation
OCG / ESF WORKING GROUP on e-DEMOCRACY
The e-PARTICIPATION branch of this Joint-Workshop concerns "e-Participation in Europe: Concepts and Implementation". All topics can be presented from a theoretical view or demonstrated by real-world case-studies.
Members of the EWG-DSS; EWG E-CUBE and OCG-WG e-Democracy are expected to participate and to encourage the participation of other related professionals in this Joint-Workshop, so that further collaboration can be promoted on a larger scale. The Workshop Participation is not restricted to the working group members, but open to all researchers within the related areas!
This Joint Workshop promises to offer a pleasant working environment for all participants, within the beautiful summer time of Graz.
Call for Papers
Papers addressing topics in research and application of Decision Support Systems; Experimental Economics; and e-Participation, are currently being invited for this Joint Workshop.
Contributors are requested to submit either Abstracts (1 page), Short Papers (4/6 pages) or Full Papers (max. 12 pages) in electronic form (MS-Word or PDF) to the workshop e-mail address: joint.workshop.graz2005@fccdp.com, by 27/02/2005. Presentations of Projects, Software Tools and Demos are also welcome. Only electronic submissions will be accepted!
