Purpose and history

  • To share experiences knowledge and research outcomes in the area of Group Decision, and Negotiation Support.
  • To develop collaborative interdisciplinary research between academics and practitioners, and between different European countries.
  • To increase the awareness of other researchers in related fields (e.g. MCDM) and researchers in different countries (e.g. United States) of work being done in Europe.

Past activities

Building on the success of the Group Decision and Negotiation 2000 conference, the event was repeated in La Rochelle in June 2001, in Perth, Western Australia in 2002, in Istanbul 2003 and most recently in Banff Canada 2004. In all cases, the conferences/workshops gave a great opportunity from those around the globe interested in Group Decision and Negotiation to meet one another and share ideas.

In addition, a special issue of the Journal of Group Decision and Negotiation was produced from the 2001 and 2002 conference, and one is in the pipeline for 2003.

Future activities

The next meeting will be in Vienna Austria on the 10-13th July 2005. Unlike the last two meetings which have been part of the INFORMS/ORSA conference and therefore much larger, this meeting will revert back to the format seen at Glasgow and La Rochelle - that is simply focusing upon Group Decision and Negotiation. In this way we can ensure that everyone is able to meet others in the field and build on experiences. As with all of the conference/workshops, there will paper sessions, panels and tutorials.

A website is currently being developed to promote the conference and provide all the details necessary however this is not yet completed. More information will be provided as soon as possible.

Publications

For nearly every year a special issue of Group Decision and Negotiation has been produced based on the annual conference. This journal is particularly appropriate as it covers the research and practice in the field.

In addition, a special issue of the European Journal of Operations Research 2003 has also appeared - on Soft OR - which provides a number of articles relevant to this working group.
