Abstract
This study addresses a point-to-point airline network design problem (PPANP), which seeks an optimal location of a given number of edges to maximize the total captured demand. Since exact solvers are limited to small-scale instances, we present heuristic approaches for the problem. We first propose an efficient algorithm that identifies one additional edge to maximize the objective value. This method is utilized to (1) accelerate a constructive heuristic algorithm and (2) refine local search procedures. We evaluate the proposed heuristics through numerical experiments on large-scale instances.
