Abstract
Australia's mining industry plays a significant role in its economy, accounting for over 13% of the total GDP in 2023-2024. Mine planning is a crucial aspect of the mining industry. In this talk, I will discuss two kinds of optimization strategies in mine planning problems. I first consider a pit shell optimization problem for open-pit planning within an optimal control framework. Next, I introduce new receding horizon control for optimal mine planning. These proposed optimization problems incorporate the actual workflow of open-pit mining activities and real-world constraints from both operational and geological aspects. Finally, numerical simulation results are presented to show the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed methods.
