Abstract

The textile and apparel industry in Sri Lanka significantly contributes to the country's export revenue but faces challenges such as global economic slowdowns, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions, including order cancellations and shipping congestion during the pandemic. While lean and resilience strategies have been studied individually, there is a research gap in understanding their integration for sustainable competitive advantage in supply chain management. This study explores the integration of lean and resilience strategies in Sri Lanka's textile supply chain, focusing on identifying enablers, core competencies like risk absorption and recovery, and implementation constraints. Using Dynamic Capability Theory and the Knowledge-Based View, the research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Expected findings include key enablers such as stakeholder relationships, technological innovation, and continuous improvement, alongside constraints like cultural barriers, resource limitations, and inadequate planning. The study aims to develop a framework for achieving sustainable competitive advantage and provide practical recommendations for apparel firms in developing economies. By examining recovery strategies during the 2022 financial crisis, the research offers insights into enhancing supply chain resilience and efficiency, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and adaptability in a volatile global market.
