Abstract
In this project, we study the reservation management system of parcel lockers. Parcel lockers offer a sustainable last-mile delivery solution. Yet, a complicating factor for lockers’ utilization rates is the uncertain parcel pickup times. Existing approaches in the literature are constrained by assuming deterministic parcel pickup times, leading to conservative reservation strategies that yield low utilization levels. In our research, we account for the inherent uncertainty of pickup times and propose data-driven policies that relax these constraints without compromising service levels. Through collaboration with European logistics providers, we gain practical insights and develop data-driven policies. Our findings indicate that incorporating the stochastic nature of parcel pickup can substantially enhance locker utilization without compromising service levels.
