Abstract
This paper looks at the use of systems ideas in Community Operational Research. In particular, it focusses on the resonance and possibilities for extension of ideas from Soft Systems and Critical Systems research. The paper looks at how systems ideas have been used in practice in various contexts and some of the key ideas that transfer across different methodologies. It looks both at Management Systems ideas and more widely at developments in Systems Science in other disciplines and asks the question how these perspectives can help support activities at a community or third sector level. This work is seen as part of a combined research agenda to support the articulation and development of Systems Research and Community O.R. in the UK and internationally.
